James, if the information you received was specific to your Sears credit account, you may want to contact Sears to make sure that the account is actually closed.
-- Contributed by: Tamsen ButlerToday I received a notice from Sears Credit Card Services concerning my account, advising of changes in the APR. I've already cancelled my account! Your exorbitant financing rates will bring about new federal regulations. Frankly I doubt if I will shop at SEARS ever again...

-- Contributed by: Tamsen ButlerDavid, if you charge items on your Sears credit card and then subsequently lose these items, you will still owe the debt to Sears. Your insurance money should be used to cover the cost of these items, along with the other items lost in the fire.
-- Contributed by: Tamsen ButlerI am very disgusted every time I think of my Sears Credit Card account! I was told by a Customer Service Rep. that if we opened a Sears Gold Mastercard account we could transfer our balance from our Sears Credit Card onto it. After opening the account we were told there is NO balance transfer available with our new card! To make matters worse, our regular Sears account recently upped our interest rate to 25.26%! Highway robbery!! Well, my only option is: 1. pay off our accounts ASAP 2. Never buy anything from Sears ever again (and we have bought over $5000 in the past) 3. I tell everyone to not ever open a Sears credit card account or buy products from Sears. Hope your store goes under for your greediness.
-- Contributed by: Susan Perryyea my question is if you have a house fire and lost everything do you still have to pay back for your purchases.then took most of your fire insurance money and spent it at there store.or do they get a refund of there losses?
-- Contributed by: davidI suggest you contact the customer service Help Desk for the Sears credit website. It may be something as simple as the site being down for maintenance.

I suggest that you give your Sears store a call and ask them about the status of your credit card application. Your application might not have been approved, or your card may have been lost on its way to you.
-- Contributed by: SusanWeberI bought a washer and dryer at Sears in Warrenton, VA in late December/early January and I bought them by applying for a new credit card. I have a bill coming due next week and I haven't received a card or a statement. Could you please email me the card number, amount owed, when due and send me a new card.
Thank you!

Thank you for sharing your story with the LoveToKnow readers. Your story teaches our readers the importance of two things: 1) reading an insurance policy so you know what your are covered for before you might need the coverage and 2) having the patience to fill out all the necessary forms provided by the insurance company.
Thanks again for your comment.
-- Contributed by: SusanWeberI have a problem with Sears AccountCare. I re-opened my Sears Credit card in October of 07. I was asked to enroll in account care, No problem There. By January work was slowing down. My wife was laid off from work, The economy was Falling fast. I was making my monthly Payments but things were getting to hard times. I began to miss my payments. 6 months go by I finally looked at my Bill and saw accountcare costing me $38 a month along with late fees and interest. I finally called to find out what it was exactly and cancel it. I told them my situation, The said it would be covered under account care, that is what it was for. They sent me a one page form to fill out and I sent it back with more documentation and a Few months later the sent me another letter saying they needed more information and I had 30 days to get it to them or they would cancel the claim. I thought it was all taken care of. So I called immediately and they asked me some Questions and asked me to fill out a new form. A week later I get the form with a letter Saying I have only 15 days from the date on the letter to get them more information which was really on about 7 days to do it and they wanted info that I did not know how to even get. They Had no problem taking my money for the insurance , But when it came to paying, They are not going to let it happen. WARNING!!!!!!!DO NOT GET ACCOUNTCARE!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know the exact reason that Sears asks for your Social Security Number to register for online service. I assume it is to use as an identifier on your account in addition to your account number so that they give access to the right account. You are right to be cautious. In a situation like this you might have considered calling Sears, expressing your concern and asking them if there is another way to register without giving your SSN online.
Thanks for your comment.
-- Contributed by: SusanWeberI recently registered for online service on my Sears card. The website asked for my Social Security number, and with reservations I entered it. The site is supposedly secure (has https and lock verification), but I am bothered that they feel they need this information in order for me to access my billing records online. None of my other online accounts require this.

You might want to call the customer service number and ask to speak to a supervisor. You want to make sure that your credit bureau was only notified of the issuance of one credit card.
Thanks for your question.
-- Contributed by: SusanWeberI applied for a was approved for a sears "option" card- I believe thats what it was called- I am 3 months down the road- 4 phone calls later and still have never received my card! Each time I have called I have been told that my card was never sent out but now i should get it in 4-6 weeks- wow I cant believe I am having this much trouble- all I want to do is establish some credit! Thank you for bringing your story to the attention of our readers. This is an excellent example of how difficult it can be at times to understand the details of an insurance policy. It is always important to be sure that you understand exactly what you are getting for your money - even if the insurance is offered as a feature on a trusted credit card.
I'm sorry for your loss and your father's unfortunate situation. Hopefully your comment will help someone else avoid the same situation.
My father had the sears credit card for about 27 years with the life insurance from allstate. He paid 9.50 every month thinking he had a good life insurance. He passed away recently and my stepmother got the life insurance that he paid on for almost 27 years and it was a measly 750.00. The insurance they said he had was decreasing life insurance. I'm warning all of you of this hoax of trying to keep that sears card open just because of the life insurance is not right. My dad said to my stepmother before he got down and couldn't do anything, not to close out the sears card because he was paying for life insurance through the card. With the interest of the card plus the 9.50 a month is not worth this kind of insurance. Cancel your cards so sears and allstate can't get your money anymore. My father had thought he had 22,000 before he passed away.

First let me tell you that LoveToKnow Credit Cards is an information-only site and does not have any affiliation with any of the credit card issuers.
It is very unfortunate that Sears' security process and the attitude of the customer service people ended up being such an unfortunate experience for such a long time Sears customer.
I suggest that you call back and specifically request that the late fee be credited on your bill. They may not be willing to make the credit since the changing billing date is probably covered in the terms and conditions statement for the card. However, talking to another supervisor may get you the results you want.
-- Contributed by: SusanWeberI have been a customer of Sears since the 1970's and about a year or two ago I got this new Sears Premier Gold Mastercard. Today, 8/21/2008, I was writing my check to pay my bill at noon at a Sears store and noticed the billing date had been changed from the 23rd to the 17th. I was at work and wanted to make a quick call to check on this date being changed. My bill is only $5.49.
Well when I finally got to customer service and I answered the consultant's questions about my name, account number, social security number, etc. Then the young man needed more info since I was calling from a different phone number. Note I was just asking about my due date only, not trying to make a purchase. He then needed to know what was the amount of my last purchase and the date. Well I did not have the receipt sitting right next to me. I finally had him hold on and I rummaged through my purse trying to find the receipt to answer about the fourth or fifth question he had asked me. I know this is for my safety, but this is extreme! He becomes rather ...y trying to explain why I was calling from a strange number and told me I might want to call from my home number later. I finally asked to speak to a supervisor. Well it was a young woman and she wasn't much better and tried to tell me that changing billing dates is something they do all the time. Well, it hasn't happened to me and I am not paying a $39 late fee for a bill of $5.49. The young woman supervisor was also rather flippant. This regular phone call became an MAJOR DEAL and took twice as long.
Your young supervisors and customer service reps needs to be a little more "customer friendly" and not so arrogant. I work for the electric company and our cust serv reps are trained in dealing with customers and I think your people could use a little more training with long time customers.
Well as soon as I pay this next bill off, minus the $39 late fee I will close my account. You have these young people in your customer service area but your long time customers need to be treated with a little more respect. You are not the only credit card company around.
Thank you, M D Kinimaka
-- Contributed by: kinimamd@oge.comI Just Want to Pay My Bill,
You should contact Sears immediately and tell them that you never received your card. This will protect you from any charges made on the card if it is stolen and it will start the process to get a new card issued to you. You can also arrange to make a payment over the phone or make a payment in your local Sears store.
Thank you for your question.
-- Contributed by: SusanWeberI lost my card and reported it(new card issued) so now how can I make a payment? PS never received the new card
-- Contributed by: i just want to pay my bill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Jack,
Thanks for your comment. It reminded us to update the article with the current card benefits. You are right, the double warranty benefit has been replaced with a points-based rewards programs.
Thanks again for your information and for visiting LoveToKnow Credit Cards.
-- Contributed by: SusanWeberI have a question. I have a sears gold master card. I called and inquired about the double warranty. The customer service rep acted as if he had never heard of this feature. Does the double warranty still exist? The card now says citi mastercard which has changed over the years. Please send me an offical do...ent.

You will need to contact Sears directly. We are an information site and not affiliated with any certain company or business. Good luck with your fight.
-- Contributed by: Debbie VasenPlease contact me at vperry@mail.barry.edu I have received your form letter attempting to charge me for a product I do not want. Your rep called re this, and I made it very clear my wife and I were not interested. The next thing I know, I receive a letter (undated), saying I would be charged a fee, and had to call a number to opt out. That number stays on constant "hold".
This is bizarre- not something I expect from Sears. I have spent thousands of dollars with Sears over the years- that is now in jeopadey.
Please respond immediately, or you have seen the last of my money.
