Shawn,

Thank you for sharing your comments with our readers. Unfortunately many consumers end up paying debt settlement companies a lot of money for services which the cardholder could do on their own. Congratulations on being debt free!

I wish I seen this before I did what I did. I was current on all my credit card debt and was looking at buying a home but had to get rid of the debt so I entered a debt settlement program and yes I am debt free after 3 years but paid way more then what I went into it originally oweing. They told me that my credit report will be in good shape after the program and I could get it removed which I believed them and now I am looking at my credit report and crying. I did keep a loan and i have stayed current on all our other living bills. cell phones and etc. but now what a mess, plus they dont tell you that on that loan we kept they raised our fee and our car insurance because our credit report is lousy. If I had seen this before I would not have went this route.

I've just started exploring the possibilities of debt relief and I consider myself VERY LUCKY to have found this article first. It is brief, comprehensive, and very well written. Thanks for being here.

Wanda,

I'm sorry to hear that you were taken in by what you think might be a credit relief scam. You may never get your money back but you can potentially protect other consumers. I suggest that you report the company to both the Better Business Bureau in your area and to the Federal Trade Commission either online or by phone at 877-382-4357.

Thank you for your comment and for visiting LoveToKnow Credit Cards.

I signed up with a comapny called NAES which I now know to be a scam, do I have any recourse I can't even get them to return my calls though before they got $3,500, before I paid them they were very active now...
