Washington Mutual Visa
From LoveToKnow Creditcards
Instead of offering a Washington Mutual Visa card to customers with personal accounts, new checking account holders are offered a MasterCard debit card or given the opportunity to apply for a MasterCard credit card. Washington Mutual does offer Visa credit cards to business customers and also owns subsidiaries offering Visa credit cards.
MasterCard versus Visa
Washington Mutual once offered Visa debit cards to account holders, but a few years ago switched to MasterCard. This does not mean that Washington Mutual offers no Visa cards whatsoever, but account holders approved for a debit card will receive a MasterCard. If account holders search the WaMu website for a traditional credit card to apply for, they will encounter MasterCard options instead of Visa unless they are applying for a business credit card.
Washington Mutual is a well-known bank within the United States, and it is one of the largest issuers of debit cards among the nation's banks.

Providian
Providian is a familiar name when it comes to credit cards for people with less-than perfect credit. Providian was purchased by Washington Mutual, but still operates under the same name. For this reason, credit cards issued by Providian can be traced back to Washington Mutual, but remain Providian cards nonetheless.
Washington Mutual offers a wide variety of Visa credit cards through Providian including, but not limited to:
- Providian Real Rewards: Cardholders are rewarded with points for making purchases as well as for activities such as making timely payments. An interesting feature of this credit card is the opportunity to use accumulated reward points in order to "buy down" the cardholder's exiting interest rate.
- Providian Cash Rewards: This Visa card features a rewards program that allows cardholders to earn cash back for purchases.
- Providian Premium Points: This Visa card gives cardholders the option to decide how they would like to redeem their points. Options for points redemption include gift cards, merchandise and more.
Through Washington Mutual, Providian offers a large assortment of credit cards to consumers including Visas and MasterCards. Find out more about Providian on the official WaMu Providian website.
