About the ADP Total Pay Card

A replacement for paper paychecks and direct deposit, this card is a modern way to receive and use your earnings each pay period. Instead of receiving a paper check or direct deposit on payday, your wages are loaded onto your Total Pay card, which is a personalized prepaid Visa debit card that is reloadable. The card offers a safe, simple, and money-saving alternative to banking.

How the Card Works

On payday, all or part of your wages will be loaded directly onto the card, and you'll have immediate access to your money. There's no need to make time consuming trips to the bank or check cashing store, and you'll never again have to pay costly check cashing fees. If you're out of town on payday, you don't have to deal with delays in getting your money. Funds will be transferred to the card automatically, so it won't matter where you are physically located the day funds are transferred.

You can use your card to pay bills or to make purchases anywhere that Visa cards are accepted for debit or credit transactions. If you want to use the card for all your financial transactions, you'll be able to do so. However, you don't have to give up your traditional checking account if you'd rather continue to use it. You can easily transfer money from the card to your bank accounts, although you are limited to one bank transfer each day.

Signing Up for Your Card

Because the card is a debit card, there are no worries about whether or not you'll be able to qualify to participate. You won't have to undergo a credit check to receive a card, and you can get a card even if you don't have a bank account.

To request a card, you'll first need to find out if your employer participates in the ADP TotalPay program. If your company is a participant, simply request an enrollment form from your employer's payroll department. To complete the document, you'll need to provide your contact information and taxpayer identification number. Your employer will file your application with ADP, and you'll receive your card by mail in approximately a week.

If you change jobs, you'll be able to keep your ADP Total Pay card, and you'll be able to continue to add funds to the account. If your new employer offers direct deposit, you can opt to have your wages deposited directly to the card even if the company doesn't utilize ADP for payroll processing. You'll simply need to provide your card account number and the associated ABA number when signing up for direct deposit.

Secondary Cards and Additional Funds

Once you have a card, you can request secondary cards for your family members. Both you and the secondary card holders will have an opportunity to load additional funds onto the card, including wages from second jobs (assuming the employer uses direct deposit), child support incomes, tax refunds, payments from Social Security, and more. You'll receive a monthly statement that shows itemized transaction details for you and the secondary cardholders.

Sammie, ask the payroll or HR department where you work to answer these questions specific to the agreement your employer has with ADP.

Does TotalPay have any connection with any collection agencies, and can the IRS garnish wages from your account? And will TotalPay share my information with any collection agencies?

Dennis,

Currently the Federal Government does not offer auto deposit from TotalPay. However, you can arrange for direct deposit into your checking account. Your ATM limit would be based on the ATM limit which your bank assigns to your checking account's ATM card.
