Target Gift Cards
From LoveToKnow Creditcards
Target gift cards can be a great way to give a gift while also allowing the recipient to choose what to buy. These gift cards are available for purchase at the store and online.
About Target Gift Cards
Target gifts cards are prepaid cards that allow users to make purchases at Target stores and online at Target.com. The amount of money available on the card equals the amount of money loaded onto the card by the purchaser. For example, if the purchaser buys the card for $200, the card then has $200 available for purchases at Target.
Cards can be purchased in the following denominations:
- $10
- $25
- $50
- $75
- $100
- $200
- $500
- $1,000
Purchasers can also specify a different amount of money they would like loaded onto the card when buying it in a store. When purchasing a gift card online, one of the above denominations must be selected. It's possible to choose any amount of money to load onto an e-gift card.
No Fees
One of the most attractive features of Target gift cards is the lack of fees. There is no cost to purchase the gift card and there are no fees to maintain the card. Cardholders can also reload balances and access their balances online and over the phone without getting charged a fee. This is in stark contrast to many other types of prepaid gift cards that charge a wide variety of fees for usage, inquiries and reloading.
There is a fee for shipping a gift card that is purchased online, but at less than $2, it's a relatively small fee.
Purchase Gift Cards
Gift cards can be purchased at a Target store or online. The cards are available at Target stores at both the checkout and at kiosks scattered throughout the store.
E-Gift Cards
Electronic versions of Target gift cards can be purchased online. These "e-gift cards" can only be used for purchases on the Target website and cannot be used to make purchases within the store. Recipients do not receive an actual card, but instead receive e-mail notification of the gift along with a number to use to make purchases using the Target website.
There is no cost associated with purchasing a Target e-gift card.
Innovative Designs
Purchasers have a wide variety of card designs to choose from when buying a gift card from Target. Target offers cards that are specific to the occasions including:
- Birthday
- Seasons
- Holidays
- Wedding
- Graduation
- New Baby
- Thank you
Target also offers gift cards that have interesting shapes as well as cards that are attached to key chains or small toys. This line of cards – called the WOW! cards – include gift cards on the cover of a box of mints as well as a gift card attached to a nightlight. Cards within this specific line do not incur additional shipping and handling charges beyond the basic charge when purchased online and can be gift wrapped before being sent to the recipient.
Cards for Corporate Clients
Gift cards are a popular choice among businesses looking to reward employees or entice potential customers. Target offers a special program for corporate clients that allows the customer to purchase gift cards in bulk or to offer gift cards in conjunction with a promotion. For example, businesses might offer customers a $5 Target gift card for filling out a customer service survey.
The corporate gift cards come in a variety of designs including photos of a dog in various occupations (doctor, construction worker, and more) as well as with phrases like "Nice Work." Businesses interested in purchasing gift cards in bulk for promotional purposes have three options:
- Order the cards online
- Order the cards over the phone by calling (800) 5GIFTS5
- Download the order form and fax it or mail it to Target
Representatives are available to assist businesses in crafting an appropriate gift card campaign..
