Score Federal Credit Union
From LoveToKnow Creditcards
Score Federal Credit Union has been offering financial products to members since the mid-1950's. In addition to offering debit cards attached to checking accounts, this credit union also offers credit card products to qualified applicants.
About Score Federal Credit Union
Score Federal Credit Union (FCU) offers membership to residents of the following Florida counties:
- Leon
- Gadsden
- Wakulla
- Jefferson
Membership is also available to people who do not reside in these counties but who do work, attend school, or attend a church located within the boundaries of these counties. There are four local branches and online banking is available. Customer service representatives are also available to members over the phone by calling (800) 210-8206.
Only Score FCUnion members can apply for credit card accounts and lines of credit through this lender. Applications for credit cards and lines of credit cannot be approved for applicants who do not have active share accounts with the credit union.
Cards Offered to Members
Score FCU offers debit cards, secured cards, and credit cards to members. Each product differs in the usage terms and any interest charged.
Debit Cards
To obtain a debit card from this credit union, members must fill out an application and have it approved after a credit history review is conducted. Checking account holders are not automatically granted access to a debit card, especially if they have some dings on their credit reports. Debit card applications may also be denied if the member's checking account is not in good standing.
To request a debit card through Score FCU, members can fill out an application online or submit a request in writing through a local branch.
Prepaid Cards
Prepaid Visa debit cards offered to members through Harland Clarke Corp are not products directly distributed by Score FCU. Members can obtain prepaid debit cards by visiting a local branch or requesting a prepaid debit card using the link on the main Score FCU website to Harland Clarke Corp.
Secured Credit Cards
Secured MasterCards use funds in Score FCU share accounts as collateral. These cards are ideal for members who have no credit history or who have a low credit score as a result of some credit problems. Not all members are approved for secured MasterCards and a credit history review is required before approval.
The share funds are held as collateral for the MasterCard Secured Starter Card. Members cannot access the funds for use. The interest rate for these cards is much higher than for the cards attached to revolving lines of credit, but is comparable to other secured credit cards on the market.
Score FCU MasterCard
Score FCU offers two different versions of their MasterCard to members:
- Score FCU MasterCard: This card offers an annual percentage rate (APR) that is comparable to similar credit cards available to consumers with good credit. Cardholders are subject to a variety of fees with this card including:
- Over-the-limit fee
- Late payment fee
- Returned check fee
- Lost card replacement fee
- Rush processing fee
- Score FCU MasterCard Gold: This gold card is similar to the regular MasterCard offered through the credit union, but features a lower APR, oftentimes one or more percentage points lower. The fees for this card are the same as for the regular Score Federal Credit Union MasterCard.
Both versions of the Score FCU credit cards have some perks. The APR for cash advances is low when compared to many other credit cards available to consumers. Both cards feature low liability for unauthorized use.
To apply for a MasterCard through Score FCU, visit a local branch. Be prepared to answer questions regarding your employment history, income, and contact information. Score FCU reviews credit reports for all credit card applications received, so do not be surprised if the representative asks you questions about items listed on your credit report after you submit your application.
