Sam's Club Discover Card
From LoveToKnow Creditcards
The Sam's Club Discover Card is an excellent way for consumers and business owners to earn the rebate benefits of a Discover Card while shopping at Sam's Club and all locations that accept Discover Cards.
Sam's Club: A Warehouse Shopping Bonanza
Sam's Club has been the warehouse retail arm of Wal-Mart since 1983. Today Sam's has over 600 locations and 47 million members in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, China and Puerto Rico.
Most Sam's Club warehouses have between 110,000 and 130,000 square feet loaded to the rafters with low prices on food and retail goods. Sam's Club members also have access to a variety of reduced-cost services such as health insurance, website development, credit card processing services and discounted auto, boat, recreational vehicle and travel programs. Some locations also sell batteries, tires and flowers and may have a café and offer pharmacy, photo or optical services.
Sam's Club Discover Card
Sam's Club offers a Discover Card as an additional benefit to their club members. The card is issued by GE Money Bank and has all the advantages of a Discover Card, plus you can use it as your Sam's membership card. As with all Discover Cards, it is accepted at over four million locations throughout the United States, but it is rarely accepted outside of the United States.
Types of Cards
Consumers and small businesses can apply for a Sam's Discover Card. They have the choice of applying for either a cash back or a mileage reward card.
The cash back and the mileage reward cards have the same basic card benefits, fees and APRs. The only difference between them is the type of reward program:
- Sam's Club Discover Earn Cash Back – Cardholders can earn up to one percent or two percent cash back based on their total purchases over a year using their Discover Card. The amount of the cash back is based on the total of their purchases and whether they have an Advantage or Advantage Plus Sam's Club membership. The purchases can be made at any location that accepts Discover Cards, including at a Sam's Club warehouse store. Sam's Club pays the cash rebate to the cardholder in a check. Shoppers must cash the rebate check at a Sam's Club.
- Sam's Club Discover Earn Miles – Cardholders earn one mile for every dollar they make in purchases at any location that accepts Discover Card. Cardholders can redeem the miles for airline tickets, hotel stays, car rentals, merchandise gift certificates and vacation packages.
Cardholders can accrue up to 60,000 miles if they have an Advantage Sam's Club membership and up to 100,000 miles with an Advantage Plus membership. The miles earned never expire.
Cardholders can quickly accumulate mileage points. All new Discover Card accounts are credited with a one-time reward of 5,000 bonus miles after the first purchase is made with the card. Advantage Plus members also receive an additional 5,000 miles, for a total of 10,000 bonus miles. Advantage Plus members also earn 1,000 bonus miles every 12 months, for a total of 12,000 miles each year. These awards of bonus miles are in addition to any reward miles earned based on purchases made with the Discover Card.
Fees and APR
There is no annual fee for this card, but cardholders still have to pay their annual Sam's Club membership fee.
The Discover Card is frequently offered with a promotional APR of zero percent for a period of time, often up to twelve months. If a promotional APR is not offered, the card's ongoing APR may be several percentage points below the competitive APR offered on other credit cards.
Convenience
All cardholders can receive cash up to the personal credit limit established for their card at any financial services location or ATM that accepts Discover Cards. They can also receive up to $100 in cash from a Sam's Club.
Security
Discover Cards have always been known for their special attention to cardholder security. The card offers a fraud liability guarantee that helps protect cardholders against identify theft. Cardholders also receive fraud alerts by telephone if Discover Card notices any unusual activity on the account.
Customer Service Support
Itemized billing statements are issued monthly showing purchases, payments and rebates earned.
Customer service support is available to cardholders 24/7 by phone or online. Cardholders can:
- Make a payment
- Request a credit line increase
- Review and revise account information
- Review recent usage and payment activity
Easy Application
If you want to apply, just stop by the membership desk for an application – no need to wade through the five pound bags of chips or the racks of office supplies! Applications can also made online for a personal or business Sam's Club Discover Card. If you are not a Sam's Club member, you will be able to become a member before you apply for your Discover Card.
