Navy Federal Credit Union
From LoveToKnow Creditcards
Navy Federal Credit Union has been serving its members since 1933. What started with seven members has grown exponentially into a respected credit union with over two million members.
Navy Federal Credit Union Credit Cards
Credit unions are highly regarded as issuers of quality credit card products which have low interest rates and no unnecessary fees. Navy Federal Credit Union is no exception to this, and the credit cards offered through this credit union are quite attractive when compared to other cards offered by different lenders.
Navy FCU offers various credit card products to members:
- nRewards - This reward card offers account holders points for purchases made through the card. The points can be redeemed for various rewards including:
- Merchandise
- Travel Purchases
- Gift Cards
There is no annual fee for this card.
- goRewards - Similarly to the nRewards card, this card offers reward points based on purchases made with the card. The rewards are also similar, but the points are earned at a faster rate with this card than with the nRewards card. The annual fee for this card is under twenty dollars.
- Flagship Rewards - Points are earned rapidly on this card and can be redeemed for a variety of travel expenses in addition to gift cards or cash rebates. The Flagship Rewards card also offers additional benefits including:
- Travel Accident Insurance
- Travel Assistance
- Warranty Programs
The annual fee for this credit card is under fifty dollars.
- Platinum - This card is designed for frequent travelers. Although there is no reward program attached to this credit card, travelers will enjoy the benefits:
- VIP Traveler Program
- Auto Rental Insurance
- Travel Accident Insurance
There is no annual fee for this card.
Debit and Check Cards
Navy FCU offers two different types of debit card products to members. Both cards are linked directly to a member's accounts at Navy FCU, but only one features the Visa logo.
- Visa Check Card - This card features the Visa Card logo and makes it possible for members to use the card for purchases anywhere Visas are accepted. Instead of the purchases getting charged to a credit account, the money is directly debited from the member's checking account.
- CUCard - This card does not feature a Visa logo but can be used at ATMs to retrieve funds from a Navy FCU account and to make purchases with merchants who have the capability to accept ATM cards. (ATM cards are often a viable alternative for members who do not necessarily qualify for a Visa debit card because of a low credit score.)
Choosing a Card
How do you know which card is best for your needs? If you do not necessarily want to utilize credit then a debit card is a good idea for you. If a credit card is more your style, then reviewing the various credit card offerings through Navy FCU will reveal the best option. Which card is best for you depends largely on whether you are looking for certain rewards, the lowest interest rate possible, or no annual fee.
Keep in mind that reward cards generally have higher interest rates and annual fees, although many account holders find that using the rewards in a smart way can make all the extra costs worth it.
Apply
These credit cards are only available to Navy Federal Credit Union members. Membership is designed to accommodate military members in the Navy and their family members, although other select groups qualify for membership. Check the Navy FCU website to see if you qualify for membership, or call a member service representative at 1-888-842-6328. Once membership is established, a credit card application can be completed online or over the telephone, and credit decisions are reached quickly.
