Mastercard MBNA Internet Credit Card
Protection

From LoveToKnow Creditcards

MasterCard MBNA Internet credit card protection is important to cardholders, especially those cardholders who routinely use their credit cards for purchases online. MBNA was acquired by Bank of America - who now owns and manages these accounts – although cardholders within some parts of the world still have cards labeled as "MBNA."

MasterCard through Bank of America

Within the United States, you cannot apply for an MBNA MasterCard because these cards are now all offered through Bank of America. Cards that were once issued by MBNA are now serviced and owned by Bank of America.

There is a wide variety of MasterCard products to choose from when applying for a credit card through Bank of America. You can view the full roster of available MasterCard products on the Bank of America website. This site also includes all the other credit cards available through Bank of America including Visa cards and other options.

MasterCard MBNA Internet Credit Card Protection is Important

One of the main concerns online shoppers have is the security of their personal information. Many fear that inputting a credit card number online is risky because a thief might intercept the numbers and go on a shopping spree. Credit card companies have responded to these concerns and most offer some form of security or guarantee for online shoppers using their credit cards.

MasterCard MBNA Internet credit card protection is offered through Bank of America's Total Security Protection program. All credit cards issued through Bank of America – including MasterCards that originated through MBNA – are covered through this program. The program offers a comprehensive list of security features to protect cardholders from fraudulent use online and beyond.

No Liability

If you use a Bank of America MasterCard to make a purchase online or elsewhere and the information is stolen and used fraudulently by someone else then you are not liable for the charges. In other words, the total amount of money charged by the thief is reimbursed by Bank of America.

Credit Guarantee

Some consumers complain that credit card companies drag out the process of getting money refunded to accounts after fraudulent charges have been made. Bank of America guarantees that accounts will be credited promptly after an incident of online identity theft, usually within one or two business days. This guarantee also applies to other forms of fraudulent use beyond Internet theft.

Monitoring for Potential Fraud

Bank of America constantly monitors the activity of cardholder accounts in an effort to make sure that there is no fraudulent activity. If this monitoring reveals potential Internet fraud on an account then a security specialist analyzes the activity and may put a freeze on the account until the situation is verified as legitimate or the fraudulent activity is revealed and dealt with. This security feature is available for all account activity and not just for Internet transactions.

Online Password Protection

Bank of America MasterCard users can set passwords for online usage making it nearly impossible for random identity thieves to get access to the cards for purchases even if they have the full credit card numbers. If this security measure is thwarted then the cardholder is still not liable for the charges based on the zero liability offered through this credit card company.

Other Security Measures

Bank of America offers other security measures to cardholders that aren't specific to Internet usage. Cardholders have the option of placing their photo on the face of the MasterCard as an additional deterrent. Bank of America also has a strict policy against sharing personal information with third parties that do not have customers' best interests in mind.

Beyond Offered Measures

Credit card holders can also take additional steps beyond the security features offered through Bank of America to make sure that their cards are safe. Online shoppers should never make purchases through websites that are not listed as secure and should always stay vigilant against phishing attempts..
