From LoveToKnow Creditcards
The First Premier Credit Card is issued by First Premier Bank, and is designed for consumers who have less than perfect credit.
About First Premier Credit Card
If you are having a difficult time getting approved for a credit card, you may want to contact First Premier Bank. This bank has a credit card, known as the First Premier Bank Credit Card, which is specifically designed for people who have difficulty getting approved for other types of credit cards.
First Premier Bank is one of the nation's leading Mastercard and Visa Card issuers focusing on consumers with damaged credit histories. One of the reasons the bank can issue these cards is because the cards themselves are fee based products. This means that the certain fees are billed on your first statement, and reduce your credit limit initially until the fees are paid.
Credit Card Fees and Features
Fees
Fees vary by card. For the First Premier Gold Card, fees are as follows:
- Annual Fee: $48
- One-Time Account Set-Up Fee: $29
- One-Time Program Fee: $95
- Monthly Participation Fee: $6
There may also be an additional card fee of $20. If this fee is applied, initial fees will total: $178. This amount will be subtracted from your initial credit limit. The initial credit limit is at least $250, but may vary depending on your credit history.
Other fees that can come up as you use the card include late fees of $25 and over the credit limit fees of $25. You will also be charged $25 every time you are eligible and approved for a credit limit increase. According to bank guidelines, you will not be eligible for a credit limit increase for at least 6 months of being issued the card.
APR
The APR on purchases charged to First Premier Gold Cards is currently at 9.9 percent, but the company often runs special offers that allow you to take advantage of 0.0 percent APR for a specific period of time. You can learn more about the APR and special offers when you apply for the card.
Cash Advance Feature
The First Premier Credit Card can be used for cash advances. Initial cash advance credit lines are limited to 10 percent of your credit limit, but increase to 50 percent after your account has been open and active for 90 days. For example, if your credit limit is $250, you will be able to get a cash advance of $25. After 90 days, your cash advance credit limit will increase to $125.
It should be noted that there are fees associated with the cash advance feature. For the gold card, the fee is $5 or 3 percent of the cash advance—whichever is greater.
Applying for a Card
There is no fee to apply for a First Premier Credit Card. Fees associated with the card are billed out after you are approved and issued your first statement. You can request an application by calling 1-605-335-7321 or you can apply for a card online. You will usually receive your approval or denial within 60 seconds after applying on the web.
The information you will be asked to supply when filling out a credit card application includes:
- Your Name
- Mailing Address
- Date of Birth
- Social Security Number
- Home Phone
- Employment Information
- Annual Income
You are allowed to include your spouse's income in your application, but First Premier needs to be able to verify that your spouse resides at the same address as you.
If you are not approved for a credit card under the initial terms that you applied for, First Premier will send you a letter in seven to ten business days explaining the denial along with an alternative credit card offer, which you can choose to accept or decline.
