Citi Credit Monitoring Service
From LoveToKnow Creditcards
Citi Credit Monitoring Service is one option if you are considering a credit monitoring service. This service will quickly alert you if they suspect someone is trying to steal your identity by use of your credit file.
Identity Theft
Most people don’t worry about identity theft until it happens to them. Every day many people fall prey to identity theft, and most won’t find out about it until they apply for a loan or credit card. By then, it may be too late.
It is extremely difficult to regain your credit once it has been compromised. Identity theft can cause you problems in getting credit, applying for jobs and it may also interfere when it comes time to pay your taxes, if the person has also gained your Social Security information.
Using a credit monitoring service is one way to help you regain some control over your personal information, and who is privy to it. A credit monitoring service can give you peace of mind, no matter what your age or station in life.
Citi Credit Monitoring Service
The Citi Credit Monitoring Service is one of the latest lines of defense in identify theft protection that credit card companies are offering their customers. This particular monitoring service is being offered through Citibank (South Dakota), N.A. Citibank has been a leading credit card issuer in the United States for years and has a strong background in thoroughly checking credit reports before issuing credit to prospective customers.
What Citi Offers Its Customers
People that have enrolled in the Citi Credit Monitoring Service can expect a high level of customer service. The amount of protection varies slightly to New York residents, but the following information applies to all enrollees:
- Credit monitoring on business days
- Fraud and theft alerts
- 3-in-1 Credit reports
- Tools to help you understand how credit works
- Specialists that will help you with any credit questions
- Fraud specialists to help you if and when you need it
New York residents are not eligible for ID Theft Expense Reimbursement Coverage, but it is offered to people who reside in the other 49 states. Identity Theft Expense Reimbursement will assist victims of identity theft to cover lost wages as a result of trying to deal with the fraud, associated attorney fees, cost of reapplying for loans that were declined as a result of the theft and any associated long-distance phone charges. The service also covers notary expenses that result from trying to reclaim your identity and additional costs of ordering credit reports.
Currently, Citibank is not accepting any new enrollees in this service, but they are accepting new customers for their newest monitoring service, IdentityMonitor.
IdentityMonitor from Citibank
IdentityMonitor offers comparable services to that of their other monitoring service. This service costs $12.95 per month.
- Credit monitoring on business days, Monday through Friday
- Notify Express to alert you of suspected fraud activity (via email, United States mail, phone or text messages)
- Around the clock access to all of your credit information including credit bureaus, scores and analysis

Is Theft Monitoring for You?
Identity theft can happen to anyone, from the young college student to CEOs of major corporations. No one is immune from someone trying to steal their identity, and their credit along with it. As anyone who has had their identity stolen will tell you, it can take years to regain your good name and credit standing. The cost for utilizing a monitoring service is reasonable, considering all of the headaches it can prevent. If you haven’t already enrolled in a credit monitoring service, now would be a good time to check out all it has to offer.

They don't allow cancellation of the program any other way. Even after canceling by phone they continued charging me. Even after I canceled my credit card so they couldn't charge me they continued my service. Canceling by phone was like trying to drag a seven year old to the dentist. The service rep just would not let me cancel my service and kept asking for a reason and trying to dismiss all my reasons. Then he put me on hold for another ten minutes so he could "talk to his supervisor" They deliberately make it so hard to cancel so that you give up. INsterad of admitting that 10 minute wait times and thirty minutes to cancel a service is way too long, he said the problem was I did not have patience. I think any customer deserves to be able to cancel a service without having to jump through so many hoops.
