From LoveToKnow Creditcards
Many consumers have at least one Citi credit card in their wallet. The Citi Group Corporation has issued over 145 million cards in more than 40 countries, making it one of the most successful credit companies in the world.
Types of Citi Credit Cards
Citi credit cards are available in many different types, from business cards to cards designed specifically for college students. With varying interest rates and reward programs, almost every consumer should be able to find the exact card that matches their needs.
Basic Cards
Sometimes, all a consumer wants in a credit card is reliability with no-strings-attached. With this in mind, Citi credit card offers several standard cards, including the Simplicity Card. This card has low-interest, no annual fee, and special offers for balance transfers. This type of card is great for people who are establishing their credit and want a card with no extras to get them started. There are no travel points or rewards associated with the card.
Rewards and Travel Cards
Citi credit cards have a lot to offer for consumers who want their credit card to work for them. There are nineteen cards available that accrue points with each purchase. These points can be used to purchase items in the "Thank You Network," an exclusive system for Citi customers that earns a point for every dollar spent.
Cardholders also earn points for banking with Citibank and can get extra points for shopping with certain retailers. A catalog of merchandise is available to choose rewards from, ranging from a CD for 1,700 points to a 52-inch high definition projection television for 249,500 points. New customers earn up to 10,000 points just by opening a new account.
College Cards
College students looking to establish their credit have plenty of options with Citi’s college cards. These cards don’t require a co-signer and offer bonus points for paying bills on-time and staying within the credit limit. These cards are also a great idea to provide peace-of-mind for both parents and students by providing funds that can be used in an emergency. The Citi Driver's Edge MasterCard for College Students even helps students save money and earn rebates on a vehicle.
Business Cards
There are three Citi small business cards that corporate clients can choose from, each with its own advantages.
- The CitiBusiness Card has low introductory rates with no annual fee but has no reward program.
- There is also a similar card that earns points for the "Thank You Network," which can really help businesses that use their points for work-related purchases.
- Customers can also choose a business card that earns free travel on American Airlines.
All Citi business accounts include additional cards for employees and the primary account holder can set spending limits, so there is little chance of having the card abused by employees.
Retail Cards
Many consumers are using Citi credit cards without even realizing it. Citi provides both Home Depot and Sears with their retail credit card accounts, making it easier for these companies to offer financial services to their customers.
Identity Protection
Citi is dedicated to keeping its customers safe from identity theft and has several safeguards available. Every account is protected with these services for no extra charge:
- Online statements. Customers concerned about having their statements stolen can opt for an online billing system, eliminating paper trails that include your account numbers.
- $0 liability. Citi cardholders are not responsible for fraudulent purchases made with their account.
- Early warning system. Citi will contact cardholders if suspicious activity appears on their account, making it easier to stop credit card fraud before it gets too far.
