Amoco Gas Card

From LoveToKnow Creditcards

The Amoco gas card can be used at any BP/Amoco gas station for fuel purchases. The card can also be used to make purchases within the convenience stores and service stations at participating gas stations.

Amoco and BP

The two companies, Amoco and BP, merged into one company in 1998. For this reason, Amoco gas cards also feature the BP logo. In fact, all Amoco gas stations within the United States received makeovers which rebranded them as BP stations. When referring to credit card products and other cards offered through Amoco, in reality the cards are offered through BP Amoco, a merged company.

ARCO is also a part of the merged company. ARCO gas cards can be used at participating BP gas stations. Information regarding gas cards specific to ARCO stations can be found on the ARCO website.

Available Cards

BP Amoco offers a variety of cards to consumers. Prepaid gas cards can be purchased online and at participating stations while gas credit cards must be applied for and a credit check conducted before the card is granted to the consumer. There are also a variety of cards available for business customers.

Prepaid Gas Cards

Prepaid gas cards from BP Amoco are popular for a few reasons:

  • The cards can be used for a wide variety of purchases including:
    • Fuel
    • Convenience store items
    • Car washes
  • The cards do not expire and do not charge a fee for long periods of inactivity.
  • The cards can be purchased in several denominations:
    • $10
    • $15
    • $20
    • $25
    • $50
    • $100
  • The cards feature quick access to balance information.

Cards can be purchased as gifts or can be used as budget tools. The cards cannot be used to purchase lottery tickets or money orders, but people who want a prepaid gas card for fuel and convenience store purchases at BP Amoco stations will find the cards easy to buy online or at the station. Lost and stolen cards cannot be replaced, so these cards should be treated like cash by cardholders.

For more information, or to purchase prepaid Amoco gas cards, visit the BP website.

BP Amoco Credit Cards

BP Amoco credit cards are issued through Chase. BP Visa cards are offered to applicants with the best credit scores while regular BP cards are offered to applicants who do not have excellent credit or who specifically apply for the regular BP card.

  • BP Visa Cards: These cards feature a revolving credit balance and can be used at any location accepting Visa cards. Cardholders do not have to limit their card purchases to BP Amoco stations because Visa cards are widely-accepted. These cards also feature a generous rewards program offering rewards for fuel purchases.

An attractive feature of this card is the freedom to choose how rewards are disbursed. Cardholders can select BP gift cards, checks sent through the mail, or direct contributions to an environmental charity.

  • BP Card: This card is a credit card that can be used at all participating BP Amoco stations. Like the BP Visa, it features a revolving credit balance and a rewards program. This card does not feature a Visa logo and can only be used at BP Amoco stations. It has a higher interest rate than the Visa card. The rewards program for this card is not as generous as the BP Visa card rewards program.

Applicants can choose between a BP Card and a BP MultiCard. The difference between the two is the MultiCard offers a discount program as well as a travelers' assistance program.

Amoco Gas Card Customer Service

Cardholders can receive assistance with their card accounts using a few different methods:

  • Online account access
  • Customer assistance via telephone
  • Limited assistance at station locations for prepaid card holders

Additionally, credit customers can request extra cards for authorized users and pay their accounts online using the Chase website. Cardholders requesting assistance with prepaid cards must use the BP Amoco website.

I made a payment on my Amoco card on the BP/Amoco Chase website Bit when I checked the payment went on my Amoco Card. I wanted this payment to be deducted from my checking account. Please tell me what I did wrong.
